RIO DE JANEIRO – His two decades of feverish commitment to cycling continued to pay off as Paralympic hopeful Bryan Larsen (Windsor, California) retook the podium for the second time in two days to add a bronze medal in the men’s omnium to his collection. Tallied by a combination of points based on results across the men’s C4 200-meter flying start, individual pursuit, scratch race, and 1-kilometer time trial, Larsen combined for an impressive 132 points overall, just eight behind France’s gold medalist.

“If we could make this a habit, it’d be a really good thing,” smiled Larsen. “I’m feeling a little bit of relief, I’m honored to be up on the podium again with two great riders. To be on the podium in the omnium is also special, I think it shows who is well rounded and really appreciates all the little minor difficulties that come with each and every event out there.”

Paralympian Clara Brown (Falmouth, Maine) raced to a top-four finish in the women’s C3 scratch race, her second stint on the track for the day. Brown also took sixth in the women’s C3 omnium 200m competition earlier in the morning.

Newly minted 2024 world silver medalist Samantha Bosco (Claremont, California) and Paralympian Shawn Morelli (Meadville, Pennsylvania) faced off in the women’s C4 scratch race to take fifth and sixth place respectively. Two days after winning bronze in the men’s C1 individual pursuit, Paralympian Aaron Keith (Woodinville, Washington) added a world fifth-best time in the men’s C1 1km time trial.

The morning session began with showdowns among the tandem riders who took to the world stage for the individual pursuit. Paralympian Amy Dixon (Pound Ridge, New York) alongside pilot Laurel Rathbun (Monument, Colorado) rode to an eighth-place finish while fellow Americans Hannah Chadwick (El Cerrito, California) and Skyler Espinoza (Freeport, Maine) were close behind with a ninth-best placement in the women’s division. Shortly after the women, American duo Branden Walton (Windsor, California) and Spencer Seggebruch (St. Louis, Missouri) grabbed a personal best racing to sixth in the men’s VI class.

Men’s C4 riders Larsen (Windsor, California) and John Terrell (Converse, Texas) kicked off the second of three sessions for the day with the men’s 1km time trial recording a ninth and fourteenth place respectively while three-time Paralympian Joe Berenyi (Aurora, Illinois) followed shortly after snagging ninth in the time trial for the C3 class.

The final day of competition will begin at 9 a.m. local time on Sunday, March 24 at the Rio Olympic/Paralympic Velodrome.
