Roundup: Ryan Pinney Celebrates Veterans Day with Trip to Daughter’s School
by Paul D. Bowker
Every other week we scour the web for the latest going on in the world of U.S. Para-cycling. Here’s what you missed!
Parading Vet
Ryan Pinney, a 2020 Paralympic medalist who served with the U.S. Air Force and Arizona National Guard, celebrated Veterans Day with a memorable visit to his daughter’s school.
“Man we love Addison’s school for many reasons but today was a special way to honor local veterans. We were able to parade through the school and stop at each grade where they sang each military branches song. Loved this time with my girl.”

Miracle Tea
Samantha Bosco, a two-time Paralympian who won a gold medal at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, was the featured speaker at the 4th Annual 360° Miracle Holiday Tea in Dana Point, California.
“You never know the impact you have on one another. This time it was me,” Bosco posted on her Instagram account.
“Yesterday I had the honor to share a little bit of my story at @miraclesforkids @360miracle Holiday Tea Luncheon. But I couldn’t help but feel all of the love as I sat in a ballroom full of women supporting, believing in and changing the lives of vulnerable families fighting for their child’s life, like sweet Lilo’s family.
“Thank you to Miracles for Kids and 360 Miracle for the opportunity to be surrounded by so much inspiration and hope. And to @luganodiamonds for the morning of stunning frosting!”
Cheering ‘em On
Jamie Whitmore returned from her third Paralympic Games from Paris in time to turn into a spectator at a California high school cross country championship meet.
“From athlete to cheer squad!!” she posted on Instagram.
“Yesterday, Ryder, Christian and Vivien competed in their first Conference Championship in cross country! All 3 have been running varsity this year which is quite the accomplishment in itself.
“The boys Varsity team was tied with El Dorado. Whichever team won here won the title and banner to be hung in the gym. UM has not done this in over a decade! I’m stoked to say … They won!!!”
Hospital Time
Three-time Paralympian Alicia Dana was on the mend and getting lots of company at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
“Lovely visit from my mom and sisters today at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center where I’ve been for the past week and will be for a couple more weeks, recovering from surgery on me arse (hopefully to solve the recurring pressure sore problem)!” she posted on Instagram.
Texas Cycling
Texas A&M’s “Around Texas with Chancellor John Sharp” post on X includes video of last April’s U.S. Paralympics Road Cycling Open held in Bryan, Texas, which along with College Station is home to Texas A&M University.
Oksana’s Cycling Journey
Oksana Masters, a 19-time Paralympic medalist who has won double golds in cycling at the last two Paralympic Games, wasn’t always so dominant in her newest sport.
She wound up adding cycling to her sports repertoire after a back injury ended her rowing career. She turned to skiing and then also cycling.
“I had no idea handcycling existed,” Masters, who competes in the WH5 class, told USParaCycling.org. “I did not finish a race without having a mechanical (problem) and getting dead last.”
