Roundup: From Paris to New York, Gold Medalist Bosco Joins Annual Salute to Women
by Paul D. Bowker
Every other week we scour the web for the latest going on in the world of U.S. Para-cycling. Here’s what you missed!
Sports Foundation Gala
Samantha Bosco, a two-time Paralympian who won her first gold medal this summer in Paris, was among those attending the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Annual Salute to Women in Sports. The gala was held at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City in October.
More on the party here:
And then it was on to a parade in Claremont, California, where Bosco marched as a “Hometown Hero.”
“Thank you, @cityofclaremont for such a memorable first parade walk to kick off @village_venture this morning! And @cremebakery for starting my day off with the sweetest surprise … even if I did have to fight my parents for the morning bun.”
Wedding Bells
Also hitting the Big Apple for a visit was 19-time Paralympic medalist Oksana Masters, who won a pair of gold medals in Paris.
This time, a wedding was on her mind as she went wedding dress shopping, bringing along wedding service company The Knot.
“Winning gold is good, but trying on dresses in New York is amazing,” Masters said.
She is engaged to Aaron Pike, a seven-time Paralympian in Nordic and track and field.
Sunflower Showdown
Three-time Paralympian Shawn Morelli traveled to Kansas to take in the Sunflower Showdown football game between Kansas and Kansas State. She also went camping at nearly Milford State Park, home of the state’s largest lake.
“Had a great weekend at Milford Lake,” she posted on Instagram. “Lots of hiking and the K-State game – was a great game.”
Oh, and in case you were wondering, K-State defeated its rival 29-27.
Hurricane Work
Monica Sereda, a 2020 Paralympian, finished fourth in a pair of events at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships, but returned home to find hurricane damage.
“I evacuated to my NC home, but the devastation is unreal,” she posted on Instagram. “Praying for all those 1st responders and Fl residents.”
Paris Performances
They’ll always have Paris.
U.S. cyclists posted strong performances at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024. They won eight medals, including four gold medals.
“I’m speechless,” 19-time Paralympic medalist Oksana Masters said after winning a gold medal in the time trial on the first day of road competition.
Here’s a look back at Paris big moments.
